Batesville
, the northernmost city, has
the largest population, of about 6,000, and has connections to Interstate 74, SR 46, SR 129,
and SR 229. Good restaurants and nice shops are plentiful in the German-flavored city.
Cultural events are held in Batesville throughout the year, many at Liberty Park.
It is home to internationally-know Hillenbrand Industries, Batesville Casket Company,
Batesville Tool
&
Die, Romweber Furniture, and Weberding's Carving Shop. The city boasts
of Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville Memorial Public Library, Liberty Park, and
a YMCA.

Cross Plains,
on SR 129 S., closing in on the beautiful hilly part of Ripley County, is a small community of about 200. Two groceries, a bank, computer store, and post office help make up the businesses of town.
Churches and education have played an important role in the history of the town. It now has three churches and a private Christian school for preschool through 12th grade.

Friendship,
on SR 62, is located in a beautiful valley in the southeastern part of the county. Home to the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA) and Muzzle Blasts Magazine, thousands come to the small community in the spring and fall to participate in national shoots or to be spectators at what are know as the Friendship Shoots. Many also take in the flea markets surrounding the muzzle loading activities.
Home year-round to only about 100 people, Friendship has a bank, grocery store, post office, restaurant, and an auto repair. It is also where the handcrafted Carl Dyer Moccasins are made.

Holton,
on US 50, is home of one of the two covered bridges in Ripley County. A park has become the center of activity for the town with a playground, picnic tables and music performances throughout the summer.
Businesses include a bank, gas station, funeral home, and more. The Holton Masonic Lodge, still active today, was formed in 1875.

Milan,
on SR 101, is known best for its 1954 basketball team that won the State Championship,
portrayed in the movie "Hoosiers".
The Milan '54 Museum has memorabilia is on display presently at Milan Station Antiques on Carr Street.
The Fourth of July Parade and celebration is a big event for the town each year, and
businesses include restaurants, antique and specialty shops, grocery stores, and more.
The Milan Park and Milan Public Library are assets to the community, as well as the public
golf course, Hoosier Links Golf Club.

Napoleon,
at the crossroads of US 421 and SR 229, combines the past with the present by preserving buildings such as Ye Olde Central House and the Elias Conwell House, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cellar beneath some local buildings, still show evidence of the Underground Railroad movement to free slaves from the south.
Residents of Napoleon today enjoy the use of the Napoleon Senior Center, which many organizations rent for events. Local children are often seen spending time in the playground that is in the town's public square.
Local businesses include a bank, two restaurants, a lumber company, meat processing plant, hardwood company, grocery store, and gas station.

Osgood,
on US 421, is a town seeing many changes today due to the generous gift of more than $23 million for a foundation given to the town from Gilmore and Golda Reynolds. The past is evident, though, in many of the beautiful homes and buildings including Betty's Shop, which was the John Eckert & Sons Hardware Store, now listed on the Indiana Register of Historic Sites & Structures.
The town is also home of the Ripley County Fairground, where the 4-H Fair is held each July. Events such as car races and horse activities are also held there through the year.
Osgood has a satellite building of Margaret Mary Community Hospital (Batesville), a library, three banks, restaurants, apartments, and several shops as well as two Bed and Breakfasts. REMC is the largest employer in the town.

Sunman,
located just off Interstate 74 on SR 101, is a small town with many small businesses and big community pride. An Easter Egg Hunt, Fireman's Festival, Wine Festival and Christmas Parade are highlights through the year for the community.
Baylor Trucking, Kruegger-Maddux Greenhouses, Seasongood Box Company, and McPherson's are some of Sunman's larger businesses.
Versailles, IN

Versailles,
at US 50 and SR 421, the Ripley County seat, is where the Ripley County Courthouse is located with Circuit and Superior courts as well as other county offices. A beautiful war monument adorns the courthouse lawn paying respect to those who fought for our freedom. Inside you will find the Ripley County History Tree full of the county's rich past.
James Tyson, co-founder of the Walgreen Pharmacy chain, was a native of Versailles and left his legacy by building a gymnasium, library, and Tyson United Methodist Church. A foundation created in his name has contributed to many projects in the community since his death in 1941.
The Ripley County Sheriff's Department, and Indiana State Police Post building are located
in Versailles.
The Annual Memorial Day Parade, Chicken Barbecue in June, Fourth of July Fireworks and Pumpkin
Show in September bring people together from all over. The
Versailles State Park, just east of town on U.S. 50 draws over 400,000 people a year for camping, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, and more. The park also hosts a Bluegrass festival the first weekend of October each year.
The Ripley County Historical Society is well known for its archives, historical information,
and musuem. Many historical homes and buildings line the Versailles streets, including the
Fernando G. Taylor House (where the Ripley County Tourism Bureau office is located) and Tyson
United Methodist Church, which are both on the National Register of Historic Places. Signs for
Morgan's Raid are located on and near the square to mark the famous raid of 1863, and a driving
tour of the raid is available at the Tourism Office, across from the courthouse.
Businesses include several restaurants, flower and gift shops, a library, variety stores and more. Ohio Rod Products is the largest industry in Versailles.
